This district does not have a “no nit” policy. If a child has head lice, he or she will not be prevented from attending school. “What if my child has head lice?? If suspected, the School Nurse will exam a student and notify the parent/guardian of head lice if it has been identified. Students may be released from school at the discretion of the parent/guardian. Education and information will be provided for the treatment and prevention of head lice to parent/guardians. Quincy mom, Carly, had the unfortunate experience of finding head lice two days before her daughter's birthday party. Here is her story: Carly is the mom of two young daughters. She considers herself very organized and is a “big planner”. Her daughter's birthday was coming up and she had everything ready to go. The school nurse will contact parents/guardians of affected children to inform them that their children must be properly treated and may return to school on the day after treatment.

Pembroke Pines Schools Pembroke Pines schools have an official lice policy that forbids children with an active head lice infestation, which includes bugs and eggs, from attending school. The “no nit” lice policy was reinstated in 2014 after a brief hiatus in which the county attempted to allow children with nits to attend school, but this was met with resistance from parents. “County schools reversed a decision to allow students with head lice to remain in school. Outraged parents and teachers flooded the school district with emails, calls and letters after the decision.
