School Lice Policies

Framingham schools do not have a “no nit” policy ; students with lice and/or nits may remain in school at the discretion of the school nurse.

Cambridge Public Schools Cambridge Schools have a progressive lice policy in keeping with recommendations from the American Association of Pediatrics and the National School Nurses Association. Children with head lice will not be sent home from school. “Pediculosis (Head Lice): Children need not be excluded or sent home early from school because of head lice. The school nurse will contact parents/guardians of affected children to inform them that their children must be properly treated and may return to school on the day after treatment.

Pembroke Pines Schools Pembroke Pines schools have an official lice policy that forbids children with an active head lice infestation, which includes bugs and eggs, from attending school. The “no nit” lice policy was reinstated in 2014 after a brief hiatus in which the county attempted to allow children with nits to attend school, but this was met with resistance from parents. “County schools reversed a decision to allow students with head lice to remain in school. Outraged parents and teachers flooded the school district with emails, calls and letters after the decision.
