Schools in the Centennial area do not exclude children from the classroom for either live bugs or nits.

Schools in the Palo Alto and Menlo Park areas are in agreement with current guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics with regard to the management of head lice in school. They do not hold to a strict no-nit policy but exclude children solely on the presence of live lice.

Schools in the Sunnyvale and Mountain View areas do not enforce a strict “no nit” policy for cases of head lice. Children will be excluded from the classroom if live lice are found, but not if only nits are present.

School districts can vary in their response to head lice from city to city and from school to school.

Schools in Marin County do not adhere to a strict “no nit” policy

Schools in the Burbank and Glendale areas hold to a no-lice policy rather than the previously enforced no-nit policy.

Schools in the Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and Malibu areas no longer adhere to strict no-nit policies, but if live lice are present students will not be allowed to attend classes.

It can be challenging to determine what course of action is required if your child develops a case of head lice, so it is always prudent to check with the health management team at your child’s school. Schools in the Longmont area may not adhere to a strict no-nit policy.

Schools in Aurora and the surrounding communities do not enforce a strict no-nit policy.

Schools in Walnut Creek do not hold to a “no-nit” policy, while nearby Concord and Pleasant Hill in the Mount Diablo school district do.
