Where we go

LiceDoctors is a mobile service. Your technician comes to your home with everything needed for the treatment.
Nearby areas we serve
We also come to
Mint Hill, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Pineville, Indian Trail, Monroe, Waxhaw, Weddington, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Belmont, Mount Holly, Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, Lake Wylie

A call from the school nurse in Myers Park, a scratchy head after a week at camp, a Ballantyne sleepover that sent lice home with a few of the guests: however it started, LiceDoctors can have a trained technician treat your family in your own home. That goes for the city, the towns ringing Mecklenburg County and the South Carolina side around Fort Mill and Rock Hill.

Most days a same-day appointment can be found, and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are on the schedule like any other day. The technician screens each person under your roof and treats every case found before leaving, and a 30-day guarantee backs the visit, on the condition that you keep up the short routine your technician leaves you.

Call LiceDoctors Charlotte: (980) 236-9416 or book online.

Uptown, the suburbs and both sides of the state line

In the city, technicians come to Uptown and South End, NoDa and Plaza Midwood, Dilworth, Myers Park and Elizabeth, and farther out to Cotswold, SouthPark, Ballantyne, Steele Creek, University City and Highland Creek, plus Pineville just past the south end of the city. Families in Wesley Heights, Montford and Sedgefield are covered too. Apartments along the light rail line, older bungalows in Dilworth and newer subdivisions off I-485 are all part of the territory.

Lake Norman and the north

Huntersville has its own page. Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville, up along Lake Norman, are covered as well, which is handy in summer when lake weekends and sleepovers pile up. A visiting cousin who brought lice to the lake house can be checked along with everyone else.

East and into Union and Cabarrus counties

Matthews and Concord each have a page. Mint Hill sits just east of the city, and in Union County we come to Indian Trail, Monroe, Waxhaw and Weddington. Around Concord, Harrisburg and Kannapolis are served too.

West across the Catawba

Over the river in Gaston County, see Gastonia; Belmont and Mount Holly sit between it and the city.

The South Carolina side

The metro does not stop at the state line, and neither do our technicians. Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill and Lake Wylie in York County are part of the area we serve, at the same standard rates. If your children go to school in South Carolina, the school rules are a little different; the school section further down explains how.

The hourly rate pays for the first 30 miles of the drive. Past that, which can happen out toward Mooresville, Monroe or Rock Hill depending on where your technician is coming from, the booking has a two-hour floor. For the rest of the state, see our North Carolina page.

A home visit around the Queen City

Booking and arrival

Call the 980 number or book online. Technicians are on the road every day from early morning until late at night, weekends included, and a same-day opening is usually there. Living in a gated neighborhood? Share the gate code when you book. In an apartment, give the building and unit number. The technician drives an unmarked car, so nothing in your driveway tells the HOA or the neighbors why someone stopped by.

While the technician works

First comes an explanation of the process, then a head check for every person who lives in the home, including parents. Mention anyone who has been itching, even if you have not seen anything. Each case found is treated during the same appointment, and the rate is hourly for the whole family, not per person. Pets can stay where they are, since dogs and cats do not spread human head lice.

The treatment is careful, unhurried combing. The technician starts by oiling the hair and splitting it into sections, then pulls a professional-grade comb through section after section, bringing lice and eggs out with it. Once the hair has dried, they go over it again strand by strand and pick off any remaining nits by hand, since leftover eggs are how a case comes back. A closing round of oil and one last sweep with the comb finish the job.

Expect the better part of an evening: family visits usually run 2.5 to 3 hours, while one short-haired child might need only about an hour. Long or thick hair takes longer, which is why the estimate is a range. Kids can watch a show, read or play a quiet game while they sit.

After the technician leaves

What you keep afterward is some easy homework: olive oil and a comb, used the way your technician shows you, to deal with any eggs too small to have been visible on the day. In almost every case that is all it takes, with no follow-up appointment. By the time the technician's car pulls away, nobody at home is contagious anymore, so there is no need to deep clean, strip every bed or wash every towel from the pool bag. Finding a stray nit or two later in the week is expected, and the homework takes care of it; much of what worried parents pull out later is a DEC plug, a flake of dandruff or plain debris.

Aubree, Natasha and what local parents wrote

Aubree and Natasha are the technicians who serve the Charlotte area.

Each of the four local reviews shown on this page gives five stars. Brendan (October 2025) liked that the visit was "Prompt, very thorough & explained everything." Jessica (October 2025) said her technician was thorough and great with the kids, and that the demonstration and instructions left her feeling confident. Jordan (September 2025) described what could have been a long, rough situation turning upbeat, ending with "The time flew by with all lice gone." Brittany (February 2025) called her technician "Friendly, accommodating and very efficient."

Two of those reviews single out how much the technician explained, and that is by design: every visit starts with a walk-through of the process and ends with the follow-up plan, so you are not left guessing about the next few days. Jordan's review is a good one to read if your child is nervous, because it describes a visit that could have gone badly and did not. Brittany's word "accommodating" matters too if you need an unusual time slot, since technicians work early mornings, late nights and weekends.

Company-wide, the rating is 4.9 on average from 8,400+ reviews.

CMS, North Carolina and South Carolina lice rules

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools does not send children home for lice. Its School Health and Nursing page says CMS follows the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), which recommend against excluding children for live lice or nits. A student with lice stays in class but is discouraged from close head contact, and the parent is notified on the day it is found. CMS does not recommend class-wide screenings, and classmates' families are notified only when multiple cases are identified.

The step to plan for is the return note. CMS asks families to send a note with the student stating that treatment was completed and giving the name of the product used. LiceDoctors' treatment is a chemical-free comb-out, not a lice product, so ask the school nurse what the note should say; then email the office, mention it is for a CMS school, and you will have the note within one business day.

North Carolina's manual

The state lines up with CMS. North Carolina's School Health Program Manual (NCDHHS, April 2026) says it is not recommended that students be sent home when lice or nits are found, and that "no nit" and "no live lice" policies should be eliminated. Its advice is to tell parents when the school day ends and to educate them on evidence-based treatments. If your child attends another district, such as Union County Public Schools or Cabarrus County Schools, check with the school nurse on how that district uses the state manual.

South Carolina's exclusion list

Across the border, the rule is different. Each year South Carolina's Department of Public Health puts out an official School and Childcare Exclusion List. Its 2026-2027 edition says a student with head lice is excluded once the school day ends, until treatment has started and live lice have been removed. It also says not to exclude contacts. For a family in Fort Mill, Tega Cay or Rock Hill, a treatment the same evening keeps missed school to a minimum; your child's South Carolina school nurse can say if our comb-out counts as starting treatment.

Whatever the district, the same short list applies: let the nurse know, check that the school will take a LiceDoctors visit and note as treatment, check siblings and anyone who shared a bed at a sleepover or a bunk at camp, and send a quick heads-up to the parents of close friends. For North Carolina daycare, ask your center's director about its own rules. Our Charlotte school lice policy post has more background.

Lice season in a long Carolina summer

Online searches for lice help peak every July and August across the country and sink to their lowest in February. Calls rise with camp, sleepovers, the start of school and winter break, and around here summer is long.

CMS students started the 2026-27 year on August 25, after a summer of day camps, pool afternoons and weekends on Lake Norman or Lake Wylie. Because lice do not always itch, a case that came home from camp in July can ride straight into the first week of school. A quick check the weekend before school and again in early September is a smart habit.

Winter break is the other window. CMS breaks from December 21 to January 1 this school year, and holiday travel, cousins sharing beds and long movie nights all put heads close together. A check in the days after January 1, before classes are back in full swing, is a good way to catch anything that came home over the holidays. The full CMS calendar is posted on the district's site, which makes it easy to plan checks around each break.

Warm weather does not change how lice spread: it is head-to-head contact, at any time of year. If a camp counselor or another parent calls to say there is a case in the group, check that night, and if a camp wants a note before your child goes back, write to the office and you will have one within one business day.

Lice treatment prices in North Carolina

North Carolina is on LiceDoctors' standard pricing, the same as South Carolina and most other states. Here is how it works:

  • Hour one: $199. After that, $179 an hour, billed by the quarter hour.
  • Every booking has a one-hour minimum, and the first 30 miles of travel cost nothing extra.
  • When the technician drives more than 30 miles, the minimum becomes two hours.
  • A Sunday appointment costs $20 more; major holidays can bring a holiday fee.
  • One rate covers the whole family; nobody is charged per person.

As an example, a two-hour visit costs $378. A typical family visit runs 2.5 to 3 hours, and the usual family total falls between $450 and $480; for a family of four, figure about $480. Weekday evenings avoid the Sunday surcharge if your schedule allows, and if you are not sure how far you are from your technician, ask when you book.

Since lice treatment is HSA and FSA eligible, those cards are accepted. For anyone who wants to try insurance, the receipt can show a diagnosis code to submit; reimbursement is never promised and depends on the plan. Need an itemized receipt, or a note for work? Email the office for either one; it is sent within one business day. Full details are on the pricing page.

Reasons Mecklenburg families pick LiceDoctors

LiceDoctors has made house calls for more than 20 years and treated over 600,000 clients, every one of them at home. Families who follow the at-home plan afterward see a 99.6% success rate. A dermatologist has gone through the method, too: Dr. Madeleine Sowash, MD, FAAD. She approved it after reviewing each step, and LiceDoctors counts on her as its Lead Medical Advisor.

The kit holds oil and combs, not pesticides, enzyme products or heat devices, so the method stays all natural, chemical-free and safe for all ages. Keep doing the homework, and the 30-day guarantee has you covered: any return of lice during those 30 days is re-treated free. You never have to buckle the kids in and sit on I-77 at rush hour to get any of it, and from a townhome in South End to a lake house in Cornelius, the protocol is the same.

In Charlotte, LiceDoctors has contributed to the Center of Hope for Women and Children.

Tell us where you are, from Huntersville to Fort Mill, and we will line up the earliest visit we can; it is often the same day. Charlotte lice treatment FAQs

Do you come to Fort Mill, Tega Cay and Rock Hill?

Yes. The York County side of the metro is part of the area we serve, and the pricing is the same standard rate as in Charlotte. The first 30 miles of the drive are covered by the hourly price, with a two-hour minimum past that. Keep in mind that South Carolina's state exclusion list keeps a child with live lice out of school from the end of the day until treatment has started and live lice are removed, so ask the Fort Mill or Rock Hill school nurse if our visit qualifies.

The CMS nurse let my child stay in class with lice. Is that normal?

Yes. CMS follows the AAP and NASN, the national groups for pediatricians and school nurses, which recommend against sending children home for live lice or nits. Your child stays in class, avoids head-to-head contact, and you are told the same day. Plan the treatment for that evening. CMS asks for a return note naming the product used, and LiceDoctors uses no lice product, so check with the nurse what the note should say.

We just got back from camp. Should everyone in the house be checked?

Yes. Lice move by head-to-head contact, so siblings who shared a bunk or a tent are worth checking, along with the parents. Your technician screens everyone who lives in the home and treats each case found during the same appointment. Billing is by the hour, so the extra checks carry no per-person charge.

I think I have lice too. Can you treat adults?

Yes. Kids aged 3 to 11 get lice most often, and the adults in their families catch them too, from moms and dads to grandparents. Parents and grandparents are checked right alongside the children and, if needed, treated the same chemical-free way during that appointment. Having lice says nothing about hygiene, so there is no reason to feel embarrassed about asking.

What should I tell you about our gated community or apartment when I book?

Share the gate code or the building and unit number, and mention where the technician should park, whether that is a driveway, a visitor space or the street. The car has no company markings, so nothing about the visit is obvious to the HOA or the neighbors. Try to have the whole household home at the appointment time, because everyone gets a check.

I found something in my daughter's hair two days after the visit. Did it fail?

Probably not. A stray nit or two in those first days is normal, and the follow-up routine is built for exactly that. Before you worry, know that many specks are DEC plugs, dandruff or debris. A real nit sticks to the hair, is oval with a pointed end and looks brown against a white background. And if live lice do come back within the 30-day window while you are on the plan, the re-treatment is free.
