Why Choose Us in Des Moines?

Lice treatment has been a tricky issue in Des Moines and across Northern Iowa for years. Then, LiceDoctors came to town. Ever since then, we’ve been the #1 option in the Hawkeye State for in-home head lice treatment.

In fact, our in-home policy is what differentiates us. Instead of traveling sometimes rather long distances to a salon or clinic, our technicians come right to your home. Forget about dealing with traffic, waiting endless time in a lice clinic, or possibly having one of your kids, who is there just for a check, inadvertently pick up a case.

We don’t use fancy, unnecessary machines to rid your head of lice. Just good ole’ fashioned American muscle, know-how, and experience, along with a caring manner. Our technicians have perfected the art of combing through the hair and then nitpicking to remove all visible lice and nits. From there, we have an unmatched follow-up plan to ensure final victory over head lice.

We are all about natural, proven remedies. We don’t use toxic chemicals or expensive chemicals that may damage the hair or not work at all. In fact, head lice have grown resistant to many of these treatments, making physical removal of head lice all the more necessary.

With over 500,000 happy customers and a doctor on staff, we have earned an “A” Rating from the Better Business Bureau. This is something we’ve worked hard for and plan to keep it that way.

We have a 30-day guarantee of our work (although we doubt you’ll need it, hardly anyone does!).

We can come on nights, weekends, or any time of day that is convenient for you. Our lice technicians will arrive in unmarked cars and always treat families with respect, professional courtesy, and kindness towards children.

Call us at 515-650-2678 to book your appointment or to ask any other questions you might have.

  • $199 for the first hour
  • $99 for each additional hour, broken down to 1/4 hour segments
  • Treatment usually lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours
  • Additional charges apply only if your technician travels over 50 miles to your home
  • Our prices are significantly less than Lice Clinics of America and lice salons that charge by the head.
  • Our total for a family of four averages between $300-$400
  • HSAs and FSAs, as well as some health insurance plans, are accepted

What are the symptoms of head lice?
Itchiness is the tell-tale sign of head lice. But not everyone with lice feels it; some people are entirely asymptomatic. In order to know for sure if you or someone in your family has lice, look for little translucent eggs stuck on the hair follicle fairly close to the scalp. Live lice may be harder to see, as they are as small as sesame seeds and move quickly through the hair.
How does lice spread?
Lice usually crawl from head to head, making children the most at-risk demographic. From there, children can bring lice into the home and transmit it to other members of the family.
Should I throw out pillow cases and bedding?
There is no need to throw out any bedding, pillows, or any furniture in the house, for that matter. Lice live exclusively on the scalp, so anywhere else they might end up in the home, they are sure to die within a day. This means that lice won’t spread in random places in your house.
Is it okay to use chemical treatments if we only do it once?
The biggest issue with chemical treatments and shampoos is that they don’t really work anymore. Lice have grown resistant to these formulas in recent years, leading to the evolution of “super lice.” In Des Moines, the best way to get rid of super lice is to bring a super head lice technician to your home! So give LiceDoctors a call today.

Client Testimonials

  • "Karen and Wendy, We thought that we were loaded with lice because my children were exposed to them at school; they were scratching a lot, and I saw little things in their hair. Your very honest LiceDoctors technician, Jessica, checked us and assured us that we did not have lice. It was just dry scalp. She explained to us that nits are brownish and this dry scalp was white. We were thrilled and appreciated your trustworthiness." - Isabel P. in Des Moines, Iowa

  • "Our technician was wonderful and so good with my kids. We have already told our friends and the parents of our kids' friends about LiceDoctors and how you pulled out all the bugs and nits. We can finally have what has eluded us for weeks...peace of mind!I am sharing this with you to share with other with the hopes that they find you earlier on in the process than it took us!" - Preeti K. in Ames, Iowa

  • "As a single mom, lice was just one of many things going on in my life at the time and basically was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I called LiceDoctors and they immediately dispatched a technician to my home. She could hear the desperation in my voice and was very sympathetic, but reassured me that she’d take care of everything. She checked my two children and found that both had lice, so I also asked to be treated just in case (even though she didn’t see any nits or live bugs). What a sigh of relief to know that we are nit-free!" - Donna H. in Urbandale, Iowa

  • "LiceDoctors are my family’s new best friend, but we hope we never have to see them again! (LOL). I have them in my speed dial on my phone and in my favorites on my computer. If you are busy and want this job done right the first time, I highly recommend this lice removal service. Customer service was wonderful!" - Kimberly S. in Oskaloosa, Iowa "I cannot say enough good things about our experience with LiceDoctors. This company is clearly dedicated to customer service and making their clients feel very special. We have been lice free for many weeks now, but the lice education that was provided to us by LD will be with us should an infestation re-occur in the future. We will always be grateful to you for what you did for our family and you know we will be spreading the word far and wide through my HSA." - Jim D. in Boone, Iowa

Des Moines Mom Asks: My Kids Were Just Diagnosed With Lice; Does that Mean I Have It?

LiceDoctors finds that in the vast majority of families, if the children have head lice then the mom has it. Head lice travel from head to head and as we moms are in close contact with our kids, it is a likely scenario that we will inherit a bug or two from them.
