“I am very impressed with the professional treatment services of LiceDoctors. Prompt and thorough. I recommend this outfit highly.”

“Very pleasant, fast, efficient and easy. The girl came out to our home, was professional and knowledgeable. By the time she left I felt completely confident that this would not be a problem for us any more. Our kids’ heads were itch free and squeaky clean. They saved us a lot of time and struggling, I am glad we went with this. Easy and effective. I would most definitely recommend this company!”

“When my mom saw nits in my hair, my dad called LiceDoctors to get the nits out of my hair. The technician came within an hour or two, and worked hard to get every nit out of my hair until they were all out. The technician also found nits in my brother and mom’s hair, and she did not leave until everybody in the house was nit-free. The technician was very nice to all of us. LiceDoctors is thorough and makes all the lice go away!”
Hannah M. in Katy, Texas, Google Plus, 5 stars
“Well worth the money. She was very though with all five members of my family. We called them on Saturday afternoon around 5 and they showed up at my house on a Sunday about noon and didn’t leave until almost 6. She trained us on what to look for and informed us on extra steps to help mitigate any further infestation. We thought our daughter was the only one that had a problem, but she later proved to us that everyone in the household did in fact have a problem whether we realized it or not at the time. If you’ve got a lice issue then I highly recommend you give these guys a call.”
Jeremy W. in Humble, Texas, Google Plus, 5 stars
“I was absolutely hysterical when I saw bugs in my daughter’s hair. It totally grossed me out. A friend suggested I call LiceDoctors. They were so patient with me. I finally stopped crying after 10 minutes and they assured me they would be able to take care of the infestation. Carrie was here within 1 hr. She calmed me down and went to work. I felt so much better after she left. I was assured that my daughter would get into school the next day which she did. I highly recommend LiceDoctors. Don’t hesitate to call them”

What Are My Choices in Lice Treatments?
We have treated many families in Houston and surrounding areas who have used a variety of head lice treatments before finding us. As mom Elizabeth D. expressed to us in exasperation, “I must’ve spent hundreds of dollars on things that didn’t work to get rid of the lice. Why isn’t there more out there about products that don’t work so that we don’t waste our time and money on those products?” Following is a list of lice treatment options:
Over-the-counter lice treatment shampoos- if you found lice in your child’s head and ran out to the drug store, chances are you picked up some kind of OTC shampoo that contains permethrin or pyrethrum. These pesticides have 1% permethrin or 0.33% pyrethrum and they are found in products like Nix, Rid, Pronto, and generic versions. The fact is that lice have morphed over the years to become highly resistant to many of these products. Search the term “super lice” and you will see that often these products do not kill the bugs and they never affect the eggs (nits). We at LiceDoctors have gone to hundreds of homes where people have used these products and there are still live bugs in the hair as well as many nits. Research shows that it takes only three years for a louse to mutate and become resistant to a chemical. According to the National Pediculosis Association (NPA) a non-profit organization in Newton, Massachusetts, “There are no over-the-counter or prescription treatments to kill lice that are totally safe and scientifically proven to be 100% effective against head lice and nits. These treatments are potentially harmful pesticides and reliance on them promotes repeated use and contributes to ongoing infestations, outbreaks and resistant strains of head lice.”

Prescription remedies– the most common Ovide is a lotion that contains .005g of malathion. Malathion is a pesticide used in landscaping and agriculture. Lindane is another pesticide used to kill lice. “According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the pharmaceutical Lindane presents a health hazard to children. Lindane is grouped in same vein as DDT, the infamous insecticide of several generations ago.The AAP based their pronouncement on Lindane’s side effects. When used as a scabicide or lice-ridant this chemical has, on occasion, resulted in convulsions, confusion and in rare instances, death.”

There are other more recent prescription remedies, as well. The question that you need to ask yourself is, “Am I comfortable putting pesticides on my child’s head?” LiceDoctors answer is that we have seen many cases of children who have had the pesticides prescribed to them by the doctor and still they have an active case of lice. Note that these pesticides do not even make the claim that they penetrate the shell of the egg to kill the baby bugs. So why use strong chemicals on your child’s hair when a) there may be some toxicity and b) they do not always work?
Natural products– LiceDoctors advocates use of natural products, but it depends what you use and how you use it. Certain natural products such as mayonnaise and Cetaphil work to suffocate bugs but they are opaque which makes it hard to see the bugs. Oils can also suffocate bugs; some are more viscous than others, making them more effective. Remember though, that nothing kills nits; in order to get rid of nits you have to physically remove them. The good news is that these products are not toxic so they won’t harm you even if they do not work to eradicate the lice.
Combing and nitpicking– This is generally an important component of effective lice treatments. According to the NPA, “Manual removal of the live lice and nits is the safe alternative and a necessary component of any head lice treatment regimen.” There are no short cuts. You need to make sure that you do not leave nits behind untreated or they will hatch and you will be confronting another infestation eventually.
This is why it is beneficial to bring in a lice professional. LiceDoctors has years of experience and 250,000 successfully treated clients and technicians who are experts at removing the lice and the eggs. If you try to treat the case on your own it will likely take you hours and you may very well leave behind some bugs and nits. The bugs are very elusive and run away from the light and movement of the hair, while the nits camouflage and are tiny. LiceDoctors’ treatment comes with a full guarantee and an “A” rating with the Better Business Bureau. Call LiceDoctors for same day treatment, any day or night in the Houston area at 713-966-6116.
