Schools in Waukesha and New Berlin have come into alignment with recommendations from the National Association of School Nurses and no longer advocate for “no nit” policies.

WAUKESHA AREA SCHOOLS

“Other Contagious/Nuisance Diseases

  • If your child has been diagnosed with a nuisance infestation/disease such as head lice or scabies, he/she may return to school after treatment has been completed. Please contact your health care provider for instruction if you suspect your child needs treatment.”

Arlington Heights School District Lice Policy

The Arlington Heights School District has a “no live lice” policy. Children with live bugs are not allowed in school. If it is confirmed that a child, while at school, has nits and/or head lice, the parents will be notified immediately. The child will not be excluded from class, but will be allowed to complete the day. It will be the parent’s responsibility to choose the treatment that best meets the needs of the child and the family. Parents/guardians will be required to provide proof of treatment prior to the student returning to school.
