Schools in Oyster Bay and Glen Cove still hold to strict “no nit” head lice policies, which means that your child will not be re-admitted to the classroom until no live lice or eggs or nits are present.

OYSTER BAY-EAST NORWICH SCHOOL DISTRICT

“Make sure that you tell others about the outbreak. Babysitters, grandparents, & playmates will all be grateful for the opportunity to check their families and prevent an outbreak. Remember this is not a reflection of hygiene! This is something that your child got from someone or somewhere just as they may get a cold. It is a part of childhood. If we insist on keeping it a secret, then the chances are high that your child will come in contact again with a person that may not even know they have lice. This equals double the work for you.

Remember to notify the school nurse so that the classroom and other contacts can be checked.

Your child must be checked by the school nurse to be re-admitted to school.

Please be aware that readmission to school may vary between buildings due ot the age of children and the nature of their interactions while in school.”

GLEN COVE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Students with head lice and/or nits will be excluded when such are identified. Parents will be notified, instructed in treatment of head lice and asked to pick up their child as soon as possible. Students will be re-examined by the nurse upon returning to school. Students with head lice and/or nits will not be allowed to re-enter until they are lice/nit free. Students who have been cleared will be re-examined in 14 calendar days by the nurse. Students found to have head lice and/or nits on re-examination will once again be excluded until they are lice/nit free.
