Lice Treatment Client Testimonials
Client Realizes that Training is Important in Lice Removal
“Janee walked into our house and immediately went to work treating the lice and educating us. She gave us a pep talk that we needed as we were so discouraged. She knew what to do and did it efficiently and and expertly. She was focused and could identify and extract nits that were hidden in the hair! We realized how much experience it takes to be good at nit removal and she was up the learning curve and we were not. Three weeks later and no nits or lice in sight! We could not be happier.” – Sasha V. in Reno, Nevada

Thanks for everything.” – Luke J. in South Lake Tahoe
LiceDoctors’ Treatment Service Less Expensive Option
‘”My kids get lice every year without fail. This year I got help. I called in the specialists. It cost me less than the products I usually buy that don’t even work. I saved myself a lot of time by calling in the pros. Don’t do it yourself…it’s a pain in the you-know-what. I highly recommend LiceDoctors.” – Brianna H. in Fernley, Nevada
Brought Home Head Lice from Mexico
“We arrived home from a wonderful extended stay in Mexico to learn that somehow we had managed to get head lice. I had been itchy on the trip but did not realize that I had lice until I was home. I had bought sombreros for all of us so maybe we got the lice from the hats. I don’t know. All I know is that we had lice, we called LiceDoctors, they came right away, and did what they promised us they would do—got rid of those unpleasant bugs. Now, I am telling anyone who will listen to call LiceDoctors the minute they suspect head lice!” – Kaori K. in Carson City, Nevada
How to Identify Head Lice OR What Do Lice and Nits Look Like on the Head and Off?
When parents learn that their child has head lice they often, with the best intentions, buy products and try to treat the child on their own. One of the first challenges that they face is that they are not sure what lice and nits (lice eggs) look like. Are they white? How big are they? Are they sticky or flaky?
Chloe K., a mom in Sparks, is one such parent. Her two daughters were sent home from school to be treated. Although recent large-scale scientific studies show that chemical lice shampoos are generally ineffective in killing lice or nits, the school nurse suggested that she buy one of those products. Chloe did some research and decided that she wanted to apply some oils and treat her girls more holistically. The problem for her, as with many people, was that she was unsure of what the nits look like. In frustration, she called LiceDoctors and we sent Danielle, an experienced technician, to treat the family.
Danielle explained to Chloe that nits look brown against a white background (although they may appear white-ish in certain lighting against brown hair) they have a translucent shell which houses a brown baby bug. They stick to the hair and are not flaky. Mature nits are about the size of a sesame seed so tend to be more visible than newly laid ones which are smaller. It takes experience to be adept at finding nits, especially recently laid ones. You can see from the photo at the right that larger nits are visible in the hair. In addition to these, there were quite a few more that were so tiny that they would be easy to miss. The key to lice removal victory is getting out all of the nits so that they are not left to hatch at a later date.
Once Danielle pulled the nits out of the hair and wiped them on a white towel, she was able to give Chloe a different view of these eggs. Against the white background nits tend to look a few shades darker. You can see that the nits have a pointy antennae emanating from the front. Anything that may be white in the hair, such as dandruff or DEC plugs, when placed against a white background, will blend in.
It helps to be able to recognize nits so that if you or a family member picks up a case of lice, you will be more likely to catch it early rather than after there are hundreds of nits in the hair. It is still helpful to bring in a professional who has experience to ensure that all nits are removed. Note that if nits remain in the hair without treatment, they will hatch and the baby bugs will mature and reproduce. If you have lice, an experienced technician will be at your home at whatever time you designate. Call LiceDoctors in Reno and vicinity at (775) 525-8644 today.
