Indianapolis FAQs

Can you describe the appearance of lice?
Adult lice are brown and are about the size of a sesame seed. They have 6 legs and no wings. They crawl very fast across the head and are hard to spot. They also hide in the hair if light is aimed at the head. When there is a bright Indianapolis day, take your child outside to check as natural sunlight is the best light to find lice.
What do nits (lice eggs) look like?
Nits range in size from microscopic when first laid to about .3 mm when fully grown. Nits are oval with an antenna at one end. They have a hard exterior and house a brown baby bug (nymph). Nits are stuck to the hair near the scalp.
How long does it take for nits to hatch?
Nits (lice eggs) take a week to 10 days to mature and hatch. Nits aren’t contagious. Lice are spread through the live bugs, not the nits. If you are not able to identify nits (they are like chameleons, blending into the hair), LiceDoctors will make a house call to your Indianapolis home and help your family today.
Will chemical medication kill lice?
Lice medication may kill a fraction of the bugs, but they will not kill resistant ones (“super lice”). They also have no effect on the eggs.  Lice continue to evolve and it is becoming more difficult to kill them with chemical lice treatments, including prescription and over-the-counter lice shampoos. The only sure way to get rid of lice is to use a protocol that includes combing out the lice and nitpicking the eggs.

Client Testimonials

  • "When my little guy came home a second time from daycare with lice after treating it myself with over-the-counter treatments, I was at my wits end. And I found out it had spread to my daughter and myself, even after I painstakingly cleaned the whole house. Jamie came the same day we called and got us all lice-free in just three hours time. I felt so much more confident knowing that I had a plan to get rid of it, and as a bonus I wasn't using harsh chemicals that were irritating my 2-year-old's skin. These guys are life savers and well worth the money!" - Angela S. in Lawrence, Indiana, Google Plus, 5 stars stars

  • "As class mother and on behalf of other parents in my daughter's second grade class, I offer a voice of gratitude to LiceDoctors for treating the 8 families in the class that caught lice. We feel as though you have put an end to this nightmare that was plaguing the kids (and moms!). Now we can focus on helping our kids to do well in school." Elizabeth J. Indianapolis, Indiana

  • "I am a single parent and I work full-time. You saved my life when my 2 sons and I got lice. I might have lost my job if I had to miss one more day trying miserably to get those nits out of all of our heads. I have no one to check me but I was a little leery when the school nurse told me about LiceDoctors. I couldn't afford to waste any more money or time. Well it all had a happy ending and I am so your tech was so comforting."    Patricia Fishers, Indiana

  • “I am a camp nurse and was mortified when my kids got head lice and I could not get the situation under control. In fact, I didn’t even realize that my kids had it until they were both infested. I finally threw in the towel and called LiceDoctors as families at our camp swear by your services. Your lice tech did an amazing job and I have now recommended that our camp hire you to come to the camp on opening day to check over all in-coming campers. Thanks so much.” Mary J. in Indianapolis, IN
