What to Expect from a Visit from LiceDoctors

LiceDoctors Technician treating child

By Lice Technician Nikki Palmer

When a LiceDoctors technician arrives at your home, he or she has one mission and that is to exterminate the lice in your family’s hair.

It is typical for the technician to first begin by introducing herself, and then to find out who in the household requires treatment. The lice tech should ideally check all members of the household. This is because if one member of the family is affected, then there is an 85% chance that other members have lice, given their proximity. If the customer decides not to treat all members of the family, the technician will advise that she can not ensure that the treated host will not become re-infected in the near future.

Arrangements

LiceDoctors will then ask to be directed to the area of the house that has the best lighting. This is so that she can perform her work comfortably and effectively. Once the area has been established, the technician will then go over the FAQ’s of head lice and answer any preliminary additional questions that the client may have. After, seating the first client and placing a cape about his/ her neck, the treatment will begin.

Treatment

LiceDoctors product of choice to rid the hair of lice is olive oil. The oil immobilizes the head lice and forces them to loosen their grip on client’s hair; thus, making it easier to remove with the nit comb. Additionally, there are benefits of using olive oil, as it is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants to nourish the hair. The client’s hair is drenched with olive oil and then detangled with an alternative comb prior to using the nit comb. This is so the hair is easier to comb through. To educate each client on the appearance of head lice and their nits, the tech will wipe the comb on a cloth after each comb-through. Lice and their nits are much easier to distinguish on a white surface.

How Long Does It Take?

The client can expect the treatment to take about one hour for each female household member, less time for boys. The time varies depending on the length and thickness of the hair, and the severity of the infestation.

After the initial combing is complete, the client is asked to wash and blow-dry their hair so that the technician can perform a strand-by-strand check pulling out any nits that remain in the hair.

The last phase is to comb the hair once more before leaving the customer’s hair drenched in olive oil and up in a messy bun. At the closing of the appointment, the clients will have an opportunity to purchase any LiceDoctors preventative products that they choose, although this is totally optional.

If you have tried to eliminate lice on your own, then you know how challenging that is for an untrained person. Experience is important when it comes to lice eradication. You don’t want to leave any lice or nits behind or you will be fighting the infestation over and over. LiceDoctors has the expertise to terminate cases of lice for good. And that is a guarantee!
