  • The best way to prevent your child from transmitting a case is to others is to do quick checks in the hair on a weekly basis. Divide hair into small sections and try to look at hair closely. NOTE: if possible capitalize on sunlight to help you to e more clearly.
  • If you see signs of nits or lice, you must comb and/or pick them out. Lice do not go away on their own. OTC and Rx shampoos are often ineffective as the lice have mutated and become impervious to these products.
  • If you find signs of lice or nits in your child's hair, alert all who have been in close contact with your child.
  • To help prevent lice, apply a protective layer around the hair to make it more difficult for the lice to climb up the hair; lice repellent, gel, mousse or spray are good options. LiceDoctors offers a lice repellent spray that coats the hair and has the added benefit of having a peppermint scent, which is a deterrent to lice. You can buy our popular lice repellent spray from our store tab at https://www.licedoctors.com/shop.html
  • Make sure long hair is braided or up. The hair should be as close to the head and as inaccessible as possible.
  • Since head to head contact is by far the most common way to transfer lice, encourage kids to avoid that when possible.
  • Advise your children not to share brushes or caps, although bugs only live off the head for a day.
  • If your child will be spending the night at a friend’s house, she or he should bring a pillow from home.
  • If you are unsure of what to do or are overwhelmed by the number of nits/lice you find in the home, bring in a professional with a lot of experience who will guarantee results.
