What are the Differences Among Lice Combs?

Dealing with head lice may be confusing, especially if this is your first time. Which comb is the best option? LiceDoctors answers that question below.

Plastic Combs

Plastic combs generally are found in pre-packaged box lice treatments that you purchase in the drugstore. These combs are not very good quality. They are breakable and the tines of the combs are usually not close enough together to grab the eggs (nits). LiceDoctors has treated many families who have used plastic cones that leave several nits in the hair.

Electric Combs

Electric combs can also be bought at drugstores. They zap the bugs. The problem is two-fold: they may miss bugs and they have no effect on nits. After using one of these combs, you are left with a head full of nits which must be extracted.

Metal Combs

Metal combs are the way to go to remove both nits and lice. The National Pediculosos Association in Newton MA recommends using a metal comb as the most effective means of lice removal. A good quality metal lice comb is sturdy, reusable, and has tines that are closed together to grab the nits and bugs.

LiceDoctors Terminator Comb

LiceDoctors recommends the Terminator comb. It is made of stainless steel and will not break or rust when used as directed.  Laser technology welding makes the comb highly sturdy and long-lasting. Its long, micro-grooved teeth are gentle on the scalp to help remove the nits. In addition, the handle has anti-slip bands making it easy to manage the comb. In addition, this comb is reusable and should last for years.
