Lice eggs, also called nits, can not get back into the hair if they fall off. The only way to contract a case of head lice is for a louse to crawl into the hair.
It is Highly Unlikely that Lice Eggs (Nits) will Fall off the Hair
Nits are glued to the hair, therefore it is not typical for them to fall out. In fact, if you find a nit in the hair, you will see how challenging it is to remove it. You need to either use a comb that has tines that are close together or you need to squeeze your fingers around the nit and slide it down the hair strand. The glue is as strong as cement so, unlike dandruff, the nits will not flake off.
If an Egg (Nit) Does Fall Out, it will not Reattach
In the unlikely event that a nit gets knocked off the hair, it can not reattach to the hair. The only way to get nits in your hair is for a live bug (louse) to lay them on the scalp. Nits are not mobile; they have a hard shell that houses a baby bug (nymph) and they need the temperature of the human head to survive. If a nit hatches as soon as it falls out (very remote chance of that), the nymph that emerges can not navigate up to a head and, therefore, will die shortly.
