Lice Treatment Client Testimonials
“As a single parent, I met my match when my kids showed up with head lice. With my work, keeping the house in order, making sure I get them to their activities, there was no way I was getting the lice out of their hair. My neighbor told me about LiceDoctors and I am very grateful that she did. It has been over a month since you treated us and still no lice in sight!” – From Don D. in Greensboro, NC–a grateful dad
“I’m a babysitter for the kids of two professionals. They trusted me with the task of finding “the best” lice picking company out there. Everyone I asked, including the family pediatrician, told me LiceDoctors. You guys are the BEST and my employers are very pleased with my judgment. Thanks for getting us cleared up AND making me look good. :)” – Emily L. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
“I am the office manager for a pediatric practice in Greensboro and High Point and I want to let you know how a phone call from Wendy at LiceDoctors improved the lives of our patients and our doctors and staff. Before Wendy told us about LiceDoctors, we advised patients to use either a prescription or over-the-counter lice treatment. Unfortunately, often times these did not work and our patients would call back frustrated and upset. Now we refer them to LiceDoctors and we have gotten so many positive reviews. This is a win-win and we are big fans of LiceDoctors.” – Katherine D. in High Point, NC
Why Are Lice So Contagious?
Most of us don’t live in a bubble, which means we are around other people, which means we are at potential risk for getting head lice. Lice are contagious, very contagious. All they need to survive are blood from the human head and the temperature of the head. Lice are not discerning, they will go to anyone’s head, with any type of hair at any time of the day. Each louse lays 6 to 10 eggs a day and lives for 30 days. What that means is that before a bug dies it has left behind up to 200 eggs. Once those eggs start to hatch you can see that there will be a lot of bugs in my hair. If that person comes into contact with other people, it is likely that another person, will pick up at least one live louse. Once that bug lays eggs and those eggs hatch you have another infested person. This process continues to be the reason that lice are so common.
Any gathering of people is a potential field day for head lice. If someone arrives at a holiday dinner with head lice, there is a chance that several others will leave with head lice. Children in the classroom, particularly young ones, sit next to each other or work on projects together thereby giving the lice an opportunity to go from one head to another. Sleepovers are prime venues for transmission of head lice. Children sleeping in the same bed make it very easy for head lice to go back-and-forth between heads. Sports teams are another common way that lice transfer among students; whether you are in a huddle or a team hug after a victory again you are in close proximity to other people and one infested head is all that is needed to transmit lice around the team.
Of course, we often see that several people in the same family are invested. Obviously families live in close quarters with each other, spending many hours a day together, thereby giving the lice ample opportunity to crawl from one head to another. If a child has head lice there is a better than 70% chance that the mom will have it as well. Siblings are also very often candidates for head lice infestations.
The good news is that you do not have to be overly worried about lice in the house. Lice have a strong survival mechanism; they do not like to leave your head, where the temperature is optimal and the food is plentiful, to go to a sofa or chair where they will die after a day of no food.
To help reduce your chances of getting head lice from another person, LiceDoctors recommends that you spray your hair with a lice repellent or hairspray, or put gel or mousse in the hair. LiceDoctors has a lice repellent that works well to coat the hair and repel lice with a peppermint scent. Lice like clean hair as it is easier for them to attach to the hair strand. Applying product to the hair gives it a protective layer and decreases the ability of lice to stick on the hair.
Head lice have become a fact of life, a very common occurrence in today’s world. In fact head lice are the second leading cause of absenteeism from school, after the common cold. Since we are not going to live in a bubble we need to understand that head lice are very contagious. If you find that you have a case, feel free to call us and we will answer your questions and an experienced technician will come to help you eradicate the lice. Call us at your convenience anytime of the day or evening, any day of the week. In the Greensboro, Winston Salem, High Point area our phone number is 336-814-2036.
