“I would like to share our story. After having a gymnastics birthday party for my four-year-old daughter, nearly of the girls came down with head lice. Turns out my daughter had a raging case and I did not know it. I felt terrible, responsible for seven girls getting head lice. I came up with an idea that worked great for everybody: we had a second party which was a head lice removal party. Your wonderful LiceDoctors technician came to our house and patiently combed through and eliminated lice in all of the girls. Ironically, all of the girls said it was the best party they had gone to all year, even better than the gymnastics party! That’s what I call making lemonade out of lemons. 🙂 We are so grateful for your assistance at a big time of need.” Gail G. in Northborough, Massachusetts.
“My husband is a pediatrician and when our kids got head lice, he informed me that the best way to get rid of them is to call in a professional service and he specifically named LiceDoctors. He said that the chemical treatments do not work and even the new prescription products do not penetrate the nits. The only way to get rid of lice is to pick them out of the hair. Your technician was an expert at this and thankfully we are all lice free and are very appreciative for your quick service.” Stacey H. in Marlborough, MA

Can My Child Get Head Lice On the School Bus?
A mom from the Worcester area called us last week to report that there was a head lice outbreak in her daughter’s school. She was on the lookout for lice in her child and she wanted to know if sending the child on the school bus increased her likelihood of getting lice. This is not an easy question to answer.
Being in close contact with other children definitely increases your risk for getting head lice. Anybody who is in contact with others, particularly head-to-head contact, is at risk for picking up head lice from someone else who may have it. Lice are typically transmitted from person to person. However, given that your child will be in the classroom with children who may have lice, being on the school bus may not add much of an increased risk to his or her day.
It is important to note that while being on the bus may slightly increase the likelihood of picking up head lice from another child, it is not that likely that your child will get lice from a seat on the bus. Head lice do not like to live on in inanimate objects like bus seats.
When there is an outbreak at your child’s school, you should be on the lookout for lice on your child’s head. This means you should put the child under a bright light and check for moving bugs or translucent eggs stuck to the hair. If you find that your child has head lice or if you are unsure, give LiceDoctors a call in the Worcester area at 774-317-7007 and we can answer your questions or make an appointment to treat your family in the comfort and privacy of your home.
According to an article in the News Telegram, Dr. David M. Keller, a pediatrician and an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, states that “besides parents being wary of insecticide treatments, lice are becoming resistant to long-used over-the-counter medications such as permethrin, sold as Nix; Rid and Pronto; and lindane, a prescribed medication formerly sold as Kwell. Lindane is no longer recommended for lice treatment because possible side effects include seizures and neurological problems. The lice are getting more and more resistant to these things, and if parents are using those hair products over and over, you wonder how effective that is,” he said.
At LiceDoctors, we agree with Dr. Keller. LiceDoctors uses chemical-free lice treatments that are fully effective and we guarantee it.
