We know how overwhelming it is to discover lice in your family and we are here to help you. Call LiceDoctors and we will eradicate those bugs today. Expensive OTC and prescription chemical products are no longer effective as lice have become resistant to them. LiceDoctors’ technicians use all-natural, comprehensive treatment protocols that work every time and without the potential side effects that may accompany chemical treatments.
What differentiates LiceDoctors from other treatment options is that we have a board-certified physician right on staff. Dr. Stephen Beck saw the need for a consistently effective and safe lice treatment service 20 years ago after seeing that all other treatments were failing to eliminate lice in his patients. After conducting extensive research on the life cycle of lice, he determined that treatments must attack lice at all stages of the cycle in order to put an end to a lice infestation. He is a proponent of chemical-free lice treatments.
In addition, LiceDoctors respects how busy your schedule is. It is an added hassle for you to get the kids in the car and drive to a salon so we offer service to you and your family right in your own Portland area home. We arrive in a plain car (no signage) whatever time of the day or evening that works for you. In-home treatment means more flexibility for your family; a child only needs to be present when it is his or her turn without having to wait for siblings to be checked. And our pricing is the same as or lower than many other options.

School Nurse Refers Students to LiceDoctors
“I have been a school nurse for the past 18 years and I have watched the incidence of head lice climb. I used to tell parents to go out and buy a box of lice shampoo at the drugstore. No longer do I do that because products just don’t work. I now have an even better weapon that I feel even better about because it’s all natural and that is LiceDoctors. I have referred several families and the kids always come back to school with clean hair. If my own kids ever get lice I know who to call.” – Lilly W. in Portland, Maine

Clears Camper Before She Starts Camp
“My kids were getting ready for camp and I did a quick check to be sure that they did not have head lice. The director had sent an email suggesting that we all do that. Much to my chagrin and surprise I found strange looking eggs stuck to my younger daughter’s hair. I had a real time crunch because they were leaving for camp the next week. My friend told me to call LiceDoctors and fortunately that is what we did. Well my daughter was packed and ready to go to camp on time by the next Saturday and she had no more lice in her hair. Thank you for coming to our rescue in a big way!” – Brittany G. in York, Maine

Do Boys Get Head Lice?
The answer is YES, boys definitely get head lice. The shorter the hair, the less likely it is to contract a case of lice, but anyone is susceptible to head lice. Even boys with crew cuts can get head lice, although it is less likely than if their hair were longer. Lice use long hair as a ladder to crawl pm to the scalp where their food source, human blood, is readily available. If someone with head lice places his or her head near a boy with short hair, and the lice have the opportunity to crawl into the head, the lice will happily remain there. Lice need the temperature of the head to survive and do not care if it is a male head or a female head.
Adult men are less likely than young boys to get head lice. Some sources claim that the reason for that is that head lice do not like testosterone. Parenting magazine, JUNIOR, in its October 12, 2012 edition did a feature on head lice and stated, “It’s rare for fathers to get head lice, so some experts believe they don’t like testosterone.”
Since lice need to latch onto hair in order to feed from the scalp, the host has to have some hair, even if it a buzz cut. Men who are totally bald are not at risk for getting lice. Since boys are more likely to have shorter hair, one advantage is that the short length of hair makes it easier to find and eradicate lice and nits (lice eggs). It is important to note that nits camouflage in the hair so that if a boy has thick hair, it can still be challenging to find the nits if you are not trained.
Barber shops are prohibited from allowing boys into the shop if they have a lice infestation.
