Lice Picking | Tips for a Better Experience
For a while I had been thinking about what I could do to make the “lice experience” a better one for all my clients. The three major challenges for families that I have encountered have been
- Pouring the olive oil in the hair
- Having shower caps on hand/readily available
- Having a container handy to combine shampoo and dish soap.
Come Bearing Gifts
So, a couple of weeks ago I went to the Dollar Tree and stocked up. Originally, I thought I would re-sell the items for a couple of dollars just for the convenience factor. After arriving @ my first family’s with the goodies in tow, however, I put them on the table when I walked in and said “I come bearing gifts!” (I wait till AFTER the comb-thru to give the shower caps) Right @ the start, I give them a spray bottle for the oil and a bottle with a nozzle (like a mustard container) for the soap mix. Often, I drop off only one shower cap.
I have found that the client is so grateful and appreciative that it immediately puts a smile on their face. Three dollars-a small price to pay to help them get to a better place. A very unexpected side benefit, without intent, is that it has increased my tips!! Previously, once in a while I would get $10 or $20. (Overall the “goodies” pretty much pay for themselves.)
I think that everyone who tries this will offer a Superb (not just Great!) Experience to their families and who knows? May make a little more $.
For those interested U can shop by the case on-line w Dollar Tree and have it shipped free to Ur nearest store for pick up.
Other Quick Tips
Next… I staple my card (and write my personal # on it) to a brochure and hand it to the client w the protocol sheet Also, @ the beginning. I tell them they can call me any time they need to over the next 3 weeks. I reinforce it by reminding them of that when I leave. I also put their # on my phone so if they call I can immediately address them by name. Very few have called but the ones that do really appreciate the personalized service!
