LiceDoctors Clears Lice So Family Can Go on Vacation
“Short and sweet. LiceDoctors saved the day. My family was headed out to a planned vacation and we found lice, which would have ruined the vacation. LiceDoctors came and got rid of the lice. They are awesome in our book!” – Gabe W. in San Rafael, CA
Dermatologist Recommends LiceDoctors
“I got lice for the first time as an adult and I was beside myself! I called my dermatologist right away and she recommended LiceDoctors. Lucky for me that they had a technician available to come to my home right away. I live alone so even if I had the disposition to treat this myself (which I definitely don’t!), I knew that there was no way that I could do a thorough job. I admit that I am bit high strung and asked a lot of questions all of which were answered patiently by my technician, JoAnna. I was so relieved that your service exists and I don’t know what I would have done without you.” – Stella Y. in Mill Valley, CA
LiceDoctors Offers Best Value
“What a luxury to find a lice treatment service that would come to my home. I am a private person and was very happy that I did not have to bring my children to a public place to be treated. In addition, I was amazed to learn, after conducting research, that LiceDoctors’ hourly pricing was lower than other companies, some who charge very expensive by the head. I did the math and realized very quickly that LiceDoctors was the most cost-efficient choice for my family. Our service was very satisfactory, exceptional, in fact, and I am pleased to send this recommendation to share.” – Minh G. in Novato, California
Thanks from Michael and Family
“My son, Michael, was so pleased with our tech, Jessica, that he ran into his room after treatment and with the help of his big sister made a sign for her. We are now 3 weeks out from treatment and I’m pleased to say that our lice case is behind us. Michael’s sign says it all!” – Cole G. in Tiburon, California
What is a Chemical-Free Alternative to Lice Pesticide Shampoos?
We receive phone calls on a regular basis from families in Marin County who want to make sure that our treatment plan is chemical-free. The answer to that question is a resounding YES! First of all, our 20 years of experience in the field has shown us time after time that chemical lice treatments do not work. Secondly, we do not like the potential side effects of chemical applications on the head.
It has been estimated that chemical treatments fail more than half the time. The chemicals do not kill lice that have mutated and are now so hearty that they are called “super lice”. Chemical lice treatments do not pierce the shell of the nits (lice eggs) to kill the nymphs (baby lice) and as long as nits remain in the hair you still have an active infestation.
In a study whose results were released at the end of 2015, lead researcher Kyong Yoon, an assistant professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsvillle, showed that lice have become resistant to current pesticide methods of treatment in 25 states. As they continue to evolve, these bugs, much like antibiotics, are becoming immune to these treatments.
Chemical lice treatments usually have the active ingredient permethrin or pyrethrum. These ingredients are neurotoxins, which kill lice by attacking the central nervous system. Products such as Rid, Pronto, and A-200 contain pyrethrins, and Nix has permethrin, products that are also contained in garden pesticides. Ovide, a prescription lice pesticide, contains an even stronger neurotoxin, malathion. Another chemical, lindane, is contained in Kwell. According to Scorecard.org, “Seizures, behavioral changes, attention deficit disorders, brain injury, skin diseases, and even death have been reported to the United States-based National Pediculosis Association’s registry by people who have used chemical treatments to get rid of head lice or scabies”.
So if chemical treatment methods aren’t effective and carry potential risks, what can parents do to eliminate lice, especially super-lice? The best way to get rid of lice is a combination of an oil-type product and comprehensive nit-picking. The oil will get into the breathing apparatus to suffocate the lice. Since nothing can “kill” a nit, you must remove it. Every nit must be removed; any that are left behind will hatch a week or so later, will mature, and will lay more eggs.
While it is possible to try and do this alone, the little nits are hard to see, and it takes a lot of practice to understand and implement the process. The most efficient and often the most cost-effective way to get rid of a case of head lice is to bring in a professional. LiceDoctors has eradicated head lice in over 250,000 clients safely and effectively. Technicians have the expertise and tools to find and remove the nits from the hair so that you don’t need to deal with a recurrence. LiceDoctors provides families with the convenience and privacy of an in-your-home service and our prices are among the lowest in the industry.
