Dermatologist Recommends LiceDoctors
“You have no idea how upset I was to find lice on my son’s head…actually maybe you do. The thought of my little boy being bitten by those bloodsucking creatures really grossed me out. While I am a do-it-yourself type, this was not for me. I called my dermatologist who immediately referred me to LiceDoctors. I just called him to tell him how great you are. Thanks so much!” – Tori A. in Jacksonville, Arkansas
Positive Experience With LiceDoctors
“What do you do when you have tried everything to get rid of lice and nothing works? You should call LiceDoctors. They came to our house and 2 hours later we were clear of lice. The tech was amazing and showed us what she was doing as she treated our kids. I feel relieved that we are done with this and much more prepared should we encounter this problem down the line. We had a very positive experience with LiceDoctors.” – Amalia R. In Little Rock, Arkansas
LiceDoctors Technician Was Super
“When our school nurse called to inform me that my two daughters have lice, I thought she was mistaken. They had shown no sign of itchiness and I wash their hair every night. I applied the chemical products to the hair and was shocked to see live bugs still on the head. My best friend told me about you all at LiceDoctors and I am so grateful to her. Your technician was super–very knowledgeable, personable, and got the job done. She made me feel much better when she told me that not everybody who has lice gets itchy and that lice actually like clean hair. (Who knew that?) The lice are gone and I feel much better equipped to identify any future problem and then to get rid of it. I have paid it forward and recommended LiceDoctors to three of my friends. Thank you.” – Dina W. in Benton, Arkansas
Pediatrician Recommends LiceDoctors
“I was surprised to find out that my daughter had lice as we are such neatniks. I didn’t know that lice prefer clean hair. Our pediatrician recommended you to us and said you are the best. Well, I just called her to tell her she is absolutely correct. Our experience with you was so positive and we are so grateful. Thanks again to Lice Doctors.” – Lindsey J. in North Little Rock, Arkansas
Discovers Lice While at the Airport
“We actually discovered my daughter’s lice problem when we were at the airport, waiting for our delayed flight. Rachel was scratching her head like mad- I assumed it was because she was nervous, but a woman sitting near us suggested lice might be the problem. Sure enough, she was right. Turns out her children had just had lice as well, and she suggested we call Lice Doctors. Lucky for us they had technicians in Orlando where we were going for vacation. They took care of it so quickly and easily.” – Charles G. in Sherwood, Arkansas
Do Most Parents Know What Head Lice and Nits Look Like?
Carolyn, a mom in Little Rock, was discussing the latest outbreak of head lice at her son’s school with a few of her friends over coffee. It turned out that while all of the women feared getting a call from the school nurse, none of them actually knew what to look for in their child’s hair. Some thought that lice have wings and fly from head to head, while others said that they are wingless and crawl from person to person. Some thought that the eggs are white, while one said brown, and another said black.
Carolyn decided to be proactive and to learn what she could about head lice. She cruised the Internet, but to her dismay, she found a lot of contradictory information. She mentioned this to her pediatrician who steered her to LiceDoctors. Carolyn called us for information, which we happily gave to her, and we suggested that she visit the education page of our website.
Equipped with a wider breadth of knowledge about head lice, Carolyn conducted an informal survey among a group of parents from the school. What she learned prompted her to call us back to tell us that the majority of parents she spoke to did not have “a clue as to what lice or nits look like.” The reality is until a parent is faced with a lice infestation, he or she most likely has no interest in knowing much about head lice. That is why LiceDoctors can be helpful to families. We know exactly what we are looking for and how to eradicate the infestation. Some key facts are as follows:
Head lice move rapidly and randomly through the hair, and can be difficult to spot. Adult head lice are approximately 1/10 of an inch long, and are about the size of a sesame seed. They are brownish in color, have 6 legs, and no wings. Head lice attach to the hair near the base of the hair shaft and lay eggs near the scalp. Head lice need to be near the head so that they can feed from blood in the hair, which they do 3 times daily.
Lice are unable to jump or fly. Head lice are generally transmitted by head to head contact. Lice can not live on dogs, cats, and other animals. Sometimes lice are shared through objects such as hats or brushes or on the furniture but since bugs die within a day without human blood, these are not common ways for someone to contract a case.
The nits or eggs that lice lay have a translucent shell encapsulating a brown baby bug: they are not white. They can be challenging to find as they often camouflage with the hair. Nits hatch after about 7 to 10 days and baby lice, called nymphs, emerge.
